Susan Litherland and Tim Klitch capture first ATX Open One-On-One Doubles Titles in Austin

The ATX OPEN, a WTA 250 Tournament in Austin, Tx,  hosted two One-On-One Doubles events, as a pilot program to grow the game in Texas. Tournament Director, Christo Van Rensburg, hosted the Men’s Invitational of 6 players who are members of the tournament’s host club-The Westwood Country Club. Rensburg, who was ranked #5 on the ATP Doubles Tour and #18 in Singles tour, ran a round robin for his 6 players competing. The champion was Tim Klitch, who was a 3 time MAC Conference Champion at Miami University of Ohio. Rensburg said ” all the players had a blast playing in the game’s crosscourt serve and volley format”.

The Women’s Invitational was directed by Mariaan De Swardt. Mariaan, who was a two time Mixed Doubles Grand Slam Champ and who reached #11 on the WTA Doubles Tour, said the Women ” all had a great time competing with the optional serve-and-volley rule and within the game’s fun format”. Susan Litherland, ITF Senior ranked player, captured the Women’s inaugural title.

This was the first One-On-One Doubles Tournament held in Texas-with more planned in the upcoming months.
